“Indian Lake House Ruins” (2020) • Soft pastel on sanded paper mounted to panel   From the artist: “My work has been described as Contemporary Regionalism – a celebration of the land, but with a modern aesthetic. I’m particularly interested in the concept of quiet anticipation – an expectant stillness that one feels at certain times of day. This work was created for the show, ‘Constructed Landscape,’ and depicts the ruins of a limestone farmhouse, now located within the boundaries of Indian Lake County Park, near Cross Plains, Wisconsin.

I work from a combination of sources: my own photographs taken on journeys into the countryside, notes that I take on location, and design studies. The photos act as a catalyst and reminder of form. While my paintings may look photorealistic, they are carefully designed with intention to capture that transient moment.”
