Arrivals and departures are a constant in our day-to-day lives, from big life events like the birth of a child to tedious moments like counting down the minutes to the end of a workday. We are constantly reminded of the comings and goings of life and its cycle, and this concept will soon be brought to life as the theme of the first juried art show to be held at the Heyde Center for the Arts (3 S. High St., Chippewa Falls), which will start Sept. 5.

Kay Brathol-Hostvet, a Heyde Center committee member and organizer of the event, is no stranger to juried art shows. After 40 years as a professional artist, she has stepped into the shoes of an art educator, longing to bring artistic opportunities to a facility as capable and beautiful as the Heyde Center. “I really feel strongly that people should be able to just make art for the enjoyment,” Brathol-Hostvet said. “Artists want their work hung with other work of quality.”

The scope of this show will be vast, extending its invitation to five states: Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Iowa, and Illinois. Artists aged 18 and up are encouraged to apply with as many as three submissions (both 2D and 3D art encouraged). With a show of this size, projected to bring many to the Heyde Center, donations and sponsorships have been and continue to be a welcome support to offset costs.

The theme, “Arrivals and Departures,” is intended to be interpreted any way the artist sees fit. “For some people, just working in a different medium could be seen as a departure,” Brathol-Hostvet said. She hopes this will bring a cohesive yet open-minded vision to the exhibit and further showcase the talent across the Midwest in the space provided by the Heyde Center.

Entry information for the show will go live on May 1 on cvca.net. The show will run from Sept. 5 through Oct. 16, 2024, with a reception and awards program on Sunday, Sept. 8. from 2-4pm. Anyone wanting to help out with costs can email arrivalsanddeparturescvca@gmail.com to request more information.
