This place has great breakfast and service but that is where the good ends. The lunches and dinners are blah. They are not seasoned or cooked to be enjoyable. This is a good place for people who like to eat breakfast out, don't mind to wait, do not like any spice in their luches or dinners and do not care what the luches and dinners taste like.

I will always hold a special place in my heart for Altoona Family Restaurant, and I refer to it as Sunday mornings. If you've had a rough Friday or Saturday evening, and you're relatively low on cash, this place is the cure. With a huge menu of simple, homemade items, and some pretty speedy service (considering there always seems to be 100 people there), AFR is also the place to go when you don't know what you're craving.

I've never understood why people are so obsessed with this place. Sure, its a good "family-style" restaurant but seems on par with others of the same variety in Eau Claire. Big menu with consistently good food, but a pretty standard interior. I remember the staff was really good though.
