Menomonie is home to many great outdoor attractions, interesting art displays, and great eats – but what truly makes Menomonie so unique is the passion and heart derived from the people who call the city home. Becca Schoenborn and Dustyn Dubuque wanted to create a space where they could share the stories of how other locals got to Menomonie, and more importantly, why they decided to stay.

The two started their podcast together in May 2021, calling it the Downtown Menom Podcast. After Dustyn left his job with Downtown Menomonie Inc. in the summer of 2022, he and Becca decided to make the podcast independent, rebranding it The Menom Podcast.

The podcast’s main focus continues to be people-based, involving an interview with a community member and discussing topics important to the Menomonie area. Previous interviewees include Menomonie’s mayor, local business owners, well-known locals, the UW-Stout chancellor, and many more.

The duo releases two episodes a month, which can be found on all podcast platforms. The podcast recently hit its 50th episode benchmark, but there isn’t any slowing down in sight! While the podcast certainly appeals to locals, it’s also very helpful to people who are new to the area or have recently moved away and want to reminisce on their time in the great city of Menomonie.

“There's just a quirkiness to Menomonie that I think draws a lot of people to stay here,” Schoenborn said. “The sense of community is really strong here and being able to have created something that gives people a place to share their stories and talk about why they’re here and what made them stay has been very rewarding.”
