Whether you’re looking for an entry-level position in a new field, an internship to round out your college experience, or an organization where you can plant your roots and grow, there’s a place for you at Royal Credit Union. Take it from Rachel Christenson who just celebrated her six-year anniversary at Royal after a career path that led to an Organizational Talent Advisor role at the credit union’s Corporate Center.

Rachel began her career with Royal in 2017 working with dealer vehicle loans in the Lending Department. While in that role, she decided she wanted to go back to school to pursue Human Resources – so she did. Just as she began her first semester, a support assistant role opened up in Royal’s Talent Services department with the team that handles several Human Resources functions for the credit union. Rachel threw her name into the ring and landed the position. She immediately dove in with both feet, learning everything she could about Human Resources in her new role while nearing the end of her studies.

“As I was finishing up school, I was offered an Organizational Talent Advisor position within the department, which I started last October,” Rachel recalled. “My career path (at RCU) is a perfect example of how Royal is willing to work with you when you show initiative and strive to strengthen your personal development within the organization.”

While Rachel’s experience ranges from the financing side of operations to working directly with new hires and recruiting efforts, Royal offers an even wider array of career opportunities, including a broad range of unique internships.

Royal’s internships are sought after for the credit union’s immersive, collaborative learning approach and wide variety of opportunities, providing students with paid, hands-on experience in marketing, community engagement, human resources, technical writing, IT, accounting, and auditing. Most internship roles at Royal are 12-18 month paid opportunities that provide students with a wealth of real-world knowledge and network connections. While most internships don’t guarantee a job placement after completion, and Royal is no exception, it is not unusual for previous interns to launch their post-graduate careers at Royal.

“I have seen a number of interns get hired on,” Rachel said. “What’s really cool is when you see someone come in as they’re finishing up school. They work hard here, graduate, then apply, and they get to dive right into this career they’ve interned for.”

Students can find Royal intern opportunities at rcu.org/Careers as well as Indeed and other job-search engines. When internships do open up, applicants can expect to see listings about 6-8 months out, so if someone is looking for a fall-start internship, take a look at openings in the spring and vice versa.

Royal is an organization with a strong set of core values that are used throughout its hiring process. Successful Royal team members strive to make a difference in their daily tasks and to make things easy for those they work with. Together with other core values like do the right thing, be caring, take ownership, and be friendly, nice, and respectful, these principles ensure that everyone working at Royal puts Members first and has the organization’s goal of creating a positive impact in common.

With about 850 team members in various departments across Minnesota and Wisconsin, there are many opportunities at Royal for applicants to consider. Currently, there are job openings at the Corporate Center and many of Royal’s offices in the Chippewa Valley, St. Croix Valley,  and in the extended areas like Colby, Hudson, and New Richmond.

With Royal, team members have the opportunity to directly engage with locals every day, and not just through their day-to-day work tasks. The organization offers a plethora of fun volunteer opportunities curated by Royal’s Community Engagement Department, offering year-round volunteer options.

Plus, Royal prides itself on its competitive benefits package, which is reviewed annually and adjusted as needed, taking in team members’ feedback when provided. “We want to make sure that we are meeting team members’ needs, so we do our best to keep a lookout for trends in comments and feedback. Our goal is to make sure that we are providing them with what they need, to the best of our ability, so that they can be supported both at work and at home,” Rachel said.

With a workplace culture centered on collaboration and passion for community, Royal Credit Union aims to ensure its footprint expands beyond its offices.
